When this couple first began talking about a move, it wasn’t about leaving anything behind—it was about making room for what came next. With one son newly graduated from the Air Force Academy and another still fully immersed there, their home naturally became a welcoming retreat for their son and the cadets who joined them each weekend. They were seeking space, not separation—a place that felt gently tucked away, yet full of warmth and connection. This transformation called for a complete renovation that is cozy and modern, layered with unique finishes and an elevated, luxurious feel, creating a home that is as inviting as it is refined.
The house itself had good bones, but it held onto an older layout—too many walls and not enough windows muted the energy this space could hold. The walls came down to create an open-concept living area, allowing the kitchen and living spaces to flow together naturally. Adding ample seating with this modern yet comfortable set of sofas adds just the pop of color needed to add flair.
Before, the kitchen felt dark and closed off. After opening up the space, light pours in, bouncing off clean lines, warm textures, and modern finishes that feel both fresh and timeless.
The result of this renovation was a space that invited conversation—where someone could be cooking while others gathered at the island, laughter carrying easily from one end of the room to the other.
Just off the kitchen, we intentionally designed a comfortable, modest dining area—unfussy and welcoming, with room to gather without too much formality.
In the basement, we carved out additional accommodations, making it easy for cadets to stay the night rather than rush back to base. It became a place where everyone could relax, refuel, and feel at home—sometimes for a night, sometimes for a weekend, but always feeling welcomed.
